Introducing Mokave Cats To Your Children
Mokave cats and kittens seem to enjoy children... they're usually very gentle and sweet towards younger children and playful with the older ones. And, of course, the kids love them!
Once bonded, your kitten will look to you as 'pack leader' for guidance in reacting to new experiences. If you're calm, kitty will be, too. Most Mokave kittens take to children right away but some require a more gradual approach. Start out with some petting and a bit of playtime until kitty feels comfortable. No loud squealing, screaming, or sudden grabbing moves, please, as that could startle your new kitty and maybe make it fearful of your kids. |

"Naya and Adelaide are great together! Adelaide is usually trying to eat Naya's tail but she doesn't mind a bit. We're excited they get to grow up together... they were born just a couple weeks apart. Naya is very active and affectionate." Eric M. Dothan, AL |
||
"Milo likes to play tag with me and the boys. We run down the hallway, hide in a room and wait for him to come find us." John W. El Cerrito, CA |
||
"Our Isis is a wonderful addition to our family. She sleeps with my husband and I up in our room every night. She cannot be without her people. Sheba and Isis both have taken to crawling under the covers to get close to their humans. In the morning, they rub on our faces to wake us, they roll over and act cute for us, and if that doesn't get us up and going then they resort to head butting." Frank & Kim Z. Brookfield, IL |
||
"We are pleased with our Mokave kitten. She is now about 15 weeks old and she is full of energy and mischief. Her favorite games are tag-with-the-kids and peek-a-boo." Kim Z. Brookfield, IL |
||
"Critter is great with kids; I have a nephew that is 10 months now... my Mokave kitten will let him do anything to him and he just takes it." Sarah W. Norfolk, VA |

Introducing Mokave Cats To Your Pets
Mokave cats and kittens usually view other pets as potential playmates. However, these cats will defend themselves if attacked so it is important that your existing pet is never agressive towards your new kitten. |

"Ash and my poodle are now the same size. He loves playing with the poodle and chases all over the house with the Boomer, my corgi. They have a blast." Debbie J. Caynon, TX |

"Sabrina is doing very well and gets along with all the other animals. Sometimes she even sleeps with the dogs. I can't get over how much she purrs. At night she lays on my chest and purrs us both to sleep. She really likes my Bengal and Maine Coon. They like chasing each other around the house. Jim B. Macomb, MI |
||
"Mulan is the best cat I have ever had... Her personality is just so loving and playful; she loves to tackle my little dogs and to follow anyone." Adrian H. Fresno, CA |
||
"Zeus is such a warm and loving guy. He has become the adopted son of our other cat, Sasha. They groom each other and give love bites. Zeus is a very chatty cat and loves being talked to as if in a conversation." Jennifer G. Mayport, FL |
||
"Tora is about 9lbs now and is doing very well. She is jumping on the dog like he is prey, and the dog is getting younger chasing her. I can't thank you enough because Tora makes us very happy." Eddie & Izumi P. Chicago, IL |
||
"Jack is so sweet. He is in love with my old dog, Sparky. Sparky and I go to bed around 9:00 pm, and when Jack realizes we are in bed, he comes to bed and snuggles with me first and then with Sparky. Goes back and forth all night. Sparky has given up trying to get away from Jack and lets Jack snuggle around his tail. Kitty N. Portland, OR |

Training Your Mokave KittenIt's easier to train a Mokave cat than you might think. There are many books such as "Cat Training in Ten Minutes" that provide good training tips, but the real trick is to develop a solid bond with your cat before beginning any type of training. See First Day: The Bonding Process. Once your kitty trusts you, it will want to please you and that makes it easy to teach. For example, most Mokave kittens easily train to harness and leash and actually enjoy walking with their owners. Other Mokave cats have been taught to use the toliet instead of a litter box. Be patient and don't overwhelm your kitten with too much at once, and you'll be surprised what these felines can do. Mokave cats are so smart that they often wind up teaching you! I am currently working on a book called "Raising Hybrid Cats," which is designed for Pet Parents and breeders. It will provide you an easy reference for topics such as mating, birthing, feeding, weaning, litter training, socialization, pet tricks, behaviour modification, health issues and remedies, traveling, and more. Available sometime in 2012. |

"Milo is doing well. He is 8 months old now and probably about 12 pounds. He climbs his cat tree on command. I am going to teach him to 'stay' one of these days. He still sits, lays down, and circles. I ask him to do those things every time I feed him." John W. El Cerrito, CA |
"Lil' Critter has learned to play fetch; his favorite play toy is a pink poodle. I took him camping. He woke me up at 4:30 am. He was standing there staring at me with his poodle in his mouth. I asked him what he wanted and he sat down, dropped the poodle on the floor, and looked at me. I told him he was nuts and his foot came out and batted at the poodle. It's 4:30 am and he wanted to play poodle! So I threw it for him..." Sarah W. Norfolk, VA |

Leash Training Your Mokave KittenTo leash train your kitten, you'll need a lightweight harness - never use a pet collar as it can choke your kitty. I recomend the Comfort Harness (PetSmart and PetCo sell them in their Rabbit section) as it is easy to put on your kitten and has velcro and snaps to prevent kitty from slipping out of it. As your cat grows larger, use a soft, padded dog harness. Of course everywhere you go, people will want to see your exotic leash-trained cat! |

Isis On Harness |
Mokave Pet Parent:
"Isis and Sheba both walk very well on leashes. When we ask if they want to go for a walk they get excited and begin 'talking' to us. They sit, stay, and heel. While walking, they will slow down or speed up so that they can walk right by our heels. Kim Z. Brookfield, IL |
To Leash and Harness Train Your Kitten:
1.
Put the harness on your kitten and let it walk around your house to get used to it. |

Mokave Pet Parent: "Sniffles has been a ball of thunder, zipping and zooming around the house nonstop. She walks on a harness and leash now everywhere I go. You can't imagine how many times I got, 'OH MY GOD, SHE'S SO BEAUTIFUL!!!' She loves all the attention." Margaret C. Seattle, WA |

"He is walking on a leash now. We have taken him to AJ's Tee Ball practices and out to enjoy the sunshine. We took him to Petco... oh, the 'Oohs' and 'Ahhs' over his beauty. Titan loves sitting in my computer chair. As a matter of fact he is in my lap right now. I cannot tell you how much he is loved." Stacy H. Momence, IL |
||||
Mokave Pet Parent: "People do not understand that these Mokave babies of ours actually understand what we say when we talk to them. When I ask them to get off of, let's say the table, they get down. We do not give our beautiful animals people food but occasionally we do give a small piece of carrot or chicken. Isis and Sheba do tricks for these tidbits such as sit, sit up, take food from our lips, and lay down. These are all their favorite tricks and I am trying to add more. They are very polite ladies as well. They never jump into our laps for food, nor do they steal it out of anyone's plate. They sit and are patient." Kim Z. Brookfield, IL |
||||
Mokave Pet Parent: "Critter is learning to walk on the harness, the hard part was getting it on him, the rest was easy. He has a scheduled appearance in Gilford Middle High School once we get all settled in. My Biology professor from high school has asked that I come in and present him to her classes." Sarah W. Norfolk, VA |
