True Stories From Actual Mokave Cat Owners

Mokave Cat owners often send me photos and stories of their experiences with my cats.
Here are some examples, arranged by category:

Adjusting To Their New Home

Amun
"I found a soft bed with a soft roof which I put in his temporary quarters. He likes it and has stopped hiding behind the toilet. He considers his little area like a safe base from which to roam and he races back there if something startles him. He doesn't like it now... he seems to want to be with me.

"Well, I'm going on and on as he's fallen asleep nestled in my chair. I think he's adjusting so quickly to his new home."

Deborah K.   Richmond, VA

Tigger
"Tigger is so playful! She is having lots of fun. She did her thing in the kitty litter about an hour after she arrived an meowed each time before she went; it was pretty cute. She has an amazing face and coloring; she is blonde, it is so pretty!

"Wow, Tigger likes to hide! We thought we lost her twice! I found her asleep in the garbage can! She also got a bath today; she did great! She loves to cuddle afterwards! She growled like a wildcat today at the sliding door blinds - she was running around so fast, she ran into them and they scared her - it was so funny!

"Tigger went to the vet yesterday and they all wanted to see her - she was a celebrity! :) They said her stitches are just fine and that she is perfect. She can jump really high, and she loves feathers. She is so great!"

"She LOVES her cat tree! I'm so glad that we got it for her. She loves to play with the little toys on it and take her cat naps up top. She seems very happy. She sleeps with me at night and is so loving. She is such an amazing cat! She eats like a horse. Holy Cow! She eats so much! She's going to be a big kitty! I had no idea how big she was going to be when we got her but I was pleasantly surprised that she was still a little kitten. She's growing fast though..."

Angel B.   St. George, UT

?
"This Bengal boy is just adorable. He has been running all over the place today and playing with pretty much everything he can find. Energy-wise, I got tired before he did... and he is still sprinting around the apartment."

Andres R.   Detroit, MI

Nevada
"My father loved Nevada. He and she got along great and she was a wonderful Father's Day surprise."

Mattonna H.   Colorado Springs, CO

Allergies & Cat Problems

Amun
"Before Amun came home, I was a little worried about how my husband would react to him. He's allergic to domestic cats. I knew that he was not allergic to bobcats as a friend of his had one. Well, all my worries are over. Hubby and kitty are getting along just fine and no allergic reaction at all. No red eyes, no sneezing, nothing but love on both sides! We couldn't be happier with our little guy."

"He knows that he's not supposed to play with the electrical cords, but is seeing what he can get away with. He perfectly understands the word "no.""

Amazing Abilities

Melina
"About a month and a half ago, Melina jumped from the bottom of a flight of stairs in my house all the way to the top - clearing about 12 stairs in one jump!"

Henry K.   , CT

Critter
"Critter can open doors. I caught him opening my bedroom door: he put both of his paws on the doorknob and began to play with it until it opened. I have an electric blanket and when he gets cold, he'll crawl under the blankets on the bed. If the blanket is not on, he will turn it on. He figured out how to turn it on by accident. He was playing around and he stepped on it and the blanket got warm. Took him about 2 more weeks to make the connection but finally he did."

Sarah W.

Kyra
"One day I was talking to my mother in her bedroom and I heard my domestic male cat, Nanja, meowing to come in. There was a noise at the screen door and I went to see what was going on. Kyra had jumped up on her cat tree, reached over to the screen door handle, pushed the button with her paw to release the latch, and then jumped down and used her paws to push the door open so Nanja could come in since he doesn't know how to open the door himself. Kyra stayed in the house. She should be on TV!"

Gayle G.   Yucca Valley, CA

Winter
"Mokave's Snow Queen, Winter, won an iCAT Agility Tournament for Kittens by making a flawless course run in just 20 seconds when she was only 4 months old. She was listed as the third fastest kitten in the world!"

Nora Scholin   Mokave Cats

Honey
"Mokave's Queen Honey won an International Cat Agility Tournament (iCAT) for Cats by making a flawless course run in 17.1 seconds when she was 8 months old. At that time, she had the second fastest speed in the world and was on Jackonville's Channel 4 News."

Animals & Mokave Cats

Amun
"It's really hot today so I had to bring my dog, Kayla, inside. They are at opposite ends of the house right now, but are definitely smelling one another. I know they're going to be the best of friends."

Deborah K.   Richmond, VA

Nikitta & Doggies
"This is a picture of my baby, Nikitta. I bought her from you last year around Thanksgiving. She is a wonderfull little girl. She gets along great with every dog she has ever met and loves kids with a playfulness like a puppy."

Christy C.   ,

Dawn
"Last night... two baby foxes came to the front porch for some birdseed. They were no more than 1 yard from Dawn with the screen door in between. No upset at all. In fact, Dawn was thrilled! Too bad I couldn't get a picture of that. They were all about the same size except for my domestic cat, Booboo, who's about 1/2 to 2/3 the size of Dawn."

Amy D.   Washington D.C.

iCAT Winner Honey
"Honey had the folks in New Zealand mesmerized by her pattern, her temperament (willing to work with her owner on doing agility; there are a lot of crabby Bengals in NZ and Australia), and that great photo!"

Vickie Shields   International Cat Agility Tournament President

Big Mokave Cats

Melina 11 Months
"Yeah, Melina is pretty large for her age. I can take a higher quality picture if you would like me to. I just took that with my laptop's built-in web-camera."

Henry K.   , CT

14 lb. Nikitta
"Nikitta is a little over a year. She weighes almost 14 pounds and is just as playful as ever. She loves to play fetch. Thank you so much for my beautiful baby girl!!!"

Christy C.   ,

Young Critter
"Critter's gotten to be a big cat. If he stands up on his back legs he reaches my waist. He weighs about 15lbs."

Sarah W.

Tom and Sarah
"Tom is my big baby. He won a final at his first cat show!"

Cool Cat Tricks

Milo in Training
"We are really enjoying our kitten, Milo. Here is a video clip of him in training. You'll have to turn up the volume to hear me ask him to laydown, sit and then circle. He is very easy to train. The video was taken this morning and he turned 4 months old yesterday. He is a spectacular looking kitten!"

"Milo is 5 months old and about 7 and a half pounds and is doing great. Here is a short video clip of him jumping on command. This is a 6-foot leap..."

John W.   , CA

Amun
"Amun is sitting between me and the back of the chair purring away. Believe it or not, he will come when I call him about 75% of the time already. I'm really suprised that he would do this. When I came up to send you this e-mail, I told him to come with me and he did."

Deborah K.   Richmond, VA

Lil Critter
"I just moved from my apartment to a house. When we were moving we couldn't find any of the cat toys. Turns out... when we began packing boxes, he began collecting his toys and hiding them. Whenever I moved, the toys were always the first to be packed up. So he sees packing and he hides his toys. He thinks that if he hides his toys he won't have to move again."

Sarah W.

Dawn
"Guess what little Dawnie did last night? I heard strange noises from the bathroom and then realized it was the toilet paper roll. I discovered that she unrolled it and then somehow rolled it back up!!! It wasn't completely straight on the roll, but can you believe how smart she is?"

Amy D.   Washington D.C.

Kids & Mokave Cats

Kitty Milo & Grant
"This is day three with the kitten. Grant asked if the kitty would sleep in his bed. So I brought the kitty in when I read stories. After Grant fell asleep, I fed the kitten and then later went to look for him and found him asleep cuddled up to Grant. I can't wait to show the picture to Grant in the morning. What a great cat!"

John W.   CA

Tigger
"Tigger is great with the kids. She lets my five year old pick her up and doesn't whine at all. Tigger is a great addition to our family! She is certainly anyone's dream cat!"

Angel B.   St. George, UT

Kitty Love

Sniffles
"SHE IS SO CUTE! Everyday is something different. Sniffle's so full of life and sweetness. I call her my 'little wiggle worm' or 'lovey dove.' She can be so independant and at the same time so full of love. I've been spending more time with her than I do with anything else. Everyday, right when I get home from work, I instantly attach her to my hip. She's the best and so full of life and innocence."

Meg C.   Seattle, WA

Amun
"I've never seen a cat this friendly! He cried for me and stopped the moment I appeared. I seem to be his protector and his best buddy already."

Deborah K.   Richmond, VA

Minnie
"Our Persian has just really taken to Minnie. Minnie likes her 'Daddy' very much also... last night she crawled up on him and just sat there and purred for hours. She is a wonderful and beautiful baby girl."

Mattonna H.  Colorado Springs, CO

Leash Training

Lil Critter
"Lil Critter is doing very well. I was informed by the employees at Sterling Meadows Vet Hospital that they have fallen in love with him and I am not allowed to take him home. Critter is very active and has gotten over his little beef with me for dropping him off there (to board).

He is learning to walk on the harness; the hard part was getting it on him, the rest was easy."

Sarah W.   Richmond, VA

Life Savers

Sniffles
"You did a wonderful job with this little peach. She's recently been playing little games with me and we have a language that only she and I understand. It's great! I'm happy for the first time in a while, and I just wanted to thank you for everything... you changed someone's life on the other side of the continent."

Margaret C.   Seattle, WA

4-Month Old Isis
"Our Isis is a wonderful addition to our family. She sleeps with my husband and I up in our room every night. She cannot be without her people.

Tuesday evening Frank went up to bed with Isis and I stayed on the couch. About 3 or 4 am Frank went into an asthma attack in his sleep. Isis saved him by banging her head and body into Frank's face to wake him up. I have never heard of a cat doing these kinds of things but am grateful for her."

Kim Z.   Brookfield, IL

Personality Quirks

Lil Critter
"Lil Critter has a thing with dirty laundry. He slings it around the bedroom and plays in it. He doesn't care what it is or who's as long as it's dirty. He like the t-shirt that I work on my car in. It's covered in grease, transmission fluid, oil, brake fluid... it's been washed since... but he like it. He always wants to be petted when you're really gross - like 'covered in jet fuel and grease' gross.

"He like movies like Sahara, Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, and The Princess Diaries. He's very strange. I love him and wouldn't trade him for the world."

Sarah W.

Sheba
"We LOVE Sheba! She is perpetual motion and her antics are hysterical. She follows me around and comes whenever I call her name and she doesn't meow... its like a sheep meowing or something. It's so cute. She also sleeps with me."

Holly B.  New Orleans, LA

Raising Mokave Cats

Dawn
"We celebrated Dawn's 3rd birthday on Friday. She got a pet swimming pool, heart-shaped bed, and a birthday party - complete with chicken. The two people that attended "dinner" drove over 100 miles!"

Amy D.   Washington D.C.

Shipping Stories

"Hi Nora. I just returned from the airport (the flight ran a bit late, but it all went fine). He had a bite to eat and is now playing around the apartment. He is, for lack of a better word, beautiful. I will keep you posted with pictures and how he's doing. Thank you."

Andres R.   Detroit, MI

Milo
"Hi Nora, the kitten arrived safe and sound. Thanks! He was affectionate and purring right out of the carrier. He is playing and exploring his new home right now. He is beautiful!"

John W.   , CA

Tigger
"Tigger arrived safe and sound. She is gorgeous! I will call you tomorrow, thanks!!!"

Brad B.   St. George, UT

Lil Critter
"Lil Critter arrived in good health a little shaken up but he soon got over that. He rode all they way back in Ray's lap purring or he was exploring the car. He is beautiful, everybody loves him here. The cargo handler loved him and spent much of the time talking to him."

"He is quite the talker - never heard a cat/kitten talk quite as much as he does. His first night here was spent with myself and Ray playing fetch, tag, hide & seek, and cuddling. He was quite interested in Dances With Wolves."

Sarah W.   Richmond, VA

Sleeping With Mokave Cats

Sheba

Miss Kyra
"Hi Nora. Just had to tell you about Miss Kyra. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I took her in my front carrypack to the store but realized she was too heavy to carry home so I put her in a grocery cart. I have never seen anything like it - any other cat would have been running down the street - not my beautiful Kyra. She had her leg hanging over the edge of the cart with cars and motorcycles wizzing right by us and she was calmly looking around like she owned the world!"
